A meeting, not of the German playwright and Ukrainian poet, but rather of the leaderships from two universities proud of their Enlightenment pedigrees.
James Brown, Director of the Paris Campus of SIU met with the leadership of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv’s Institute of International Relations October 13th. Dr. Brown had a chance to meet with the Head of the Department of International Relations and Foreign Policy, Professor Volodymyr Manzhola, Vice-Rector of International Relations, Professor Bekh and Sergiy Galaka, Professor of International Relations and International Security.
The Institute of International Relations is the pre-eminent institution specialized in foreign affairs in Ukraine and has a long history of producing leaders and diplomats, from the Soviet period to today. Based as it is on four European campuses, Schiller International University brings an interesting perspective to international relations that complements that of its Ukrainian counterparts.
Dr. Brown also had the opportunity to meet with top managers of Bechtel Corporation, the American multinational engineering firm piloting the International Chernobyl Consortium. Bechtel is capping off twenty years of its commitment to the New Safe Confinement project which will cover the Chernobyl reactor under a special enclosure.
Schiller is proud of its ties to Ukraine and the numerous alumni based in Kyiv and elsewhere. We look forward to furthering our engagement and exchanges with our Ukrainian partners!
